Sprouting sounds scientific, but it's really just a patient conversation between water, warmth and a seed. When grains and pulses germinate, enzymes wake up, some anti-nutrients like phytic acid reduce, and the little sprout becomes gentler on the tummy.
The simple method
Wash your grains or green gram well, soak them overnight, then drain and bundle them in a clean, damp cotton cloth. Keep the bundle in a covered vessel, rinse it once or twice a day, and within a day or two you'll see tiny white tails appear.
Where sprouts shine
Sprouted ragi is a classic base for baby porridge flour, sprouted green gram makes a lovely sundal, and sprouted wheat lends a natural sweetness to health mixes. Always cook sprouts meant for babies and young children thoroughly.
Patience is an ingredient too.
Once you master sprouting, you're halfway to making professional-quality health mixes at home — a skill many of our students have turned into thriving little enterprises.
